Therapy in Syracuse
Saying the words love addiction or sex addiction out loud is often the hardest part. It is also one of the seven areas Melanie works in, so saying it here is not an interruption to the work.
Working together from Syracuse
How this actually works
Melanie keeps one office, in Manhattan, and weekly therapy does not happen there — it is telehealth, wherever in New York State you are. From Syracuse that means no building to walk into and no front desk, which for this subject some people count as a relief. Each session runs 50 minutes, usually weekly. You need to be physically located in New York State at the time of each one.
I don’t have an office there. Weekly therapy is telehealth, and you need to be physically located in New York State at the time of each session.
Why people get in touch
What brings people here
A named specialty
Love addiction and sex addiction sit on Melanie's published list of seven core specialties, alongside complex trauma and C-PTSD, attachment and relationships, religious trauma and cult recovery, narcissistic abuse and coercive control, breakup and divorce recovery, and anxiety and depression. It is not an exception being made for you. Sex-positive, orientation-affirming, non-moralizing — no prescribed definition of healthy sexuality is imposed here.
Underneath the thinking brain
Her training runs through Internal Family Systems, Inner Relationship Focusing, somatic and experiential psychotherapy, psychodynamic and relational work, and mindfulness-based approaches. These are ways of working beneath the level of explanation. Explanation is usually the part you already have plenty of. Therapy outcomes are not guaranteed.
Individual sessions, weekly
This is therapy for adults, one person at a time: 50 minutes, usually weekly, $235. It is not a group and not a program. She sits out-of-network with every insurer, and the monthly superbill is there if you want to chase reimbursement, though whether it lands is your insurer's call.
FAQ
Questions from Syracuse
Is there an office in Syracuse?
No. Melanie's only office is in Manhattan, and weekly therapy does not happen there in any case. Weekly therapy is telehealth, and you need to be physically located in New York State at the time of each session. The one in-person format is ketamine-assisted therapy, offered only alongside ongoing psychotherapy with her, with screening, prescribing and medical oversight handled by a separate independent licensed medical provider, never by her. Whether that could ever apply to you is a consultation conversation rather than something to assume.
Are there limits on who you can work with?
Weekly therapy takes place via telehealth. I am licensed in New York and can only offer psychotherapy services to people who reside in New York State. The practice is adults only.
Is this a group or a structured program?
Neither. Every session is individual, 50 minutes, usually weekly. Abstinence is not required and neither is a 12-step program, and the label matters far less than the pattern and what it costs you. A free 15-to-20-minute consultation comes first, over video or phone, with nothing owed either way, and booking runs through Carepatron.
Do you work with queer clients?
Yes. Melanie says she is especially drawn to working with creatives, artists, entrepreneurs, queer folks, and people recovering from high-demand religions, because all of those things are part of her background and personal experience.
What if I'm in crisis tonight?
If you are in danger right now, call or text 988 or dial 911. This site isn't a crisis service and email is not monitored for emergencies.
