Therapy in Rochester

Anxiety that runs underneath a functioning life is still anxiety. So is the flatness that follows it, where you get the days done without being inside them.

Working together from Rochester

How this actually works

Melanie has no office in Rochester; weekly therapy with her is telehealth. The session happens from wherever you are. The practical requirement is unchanged: you are physically in New York State at the time of each session, and each one runs 50 minutes.

I don’t have an office there. Weekly therapy is telehealth, and you need to be physically located in New York State at the time of each session.

Why people get in touch

What brings people here

Anxiety and depression, in the body too

Anxiety is not only a thought, and depression is not only a mood. Somatic psychotherapy means what is happening in your body comes in as information, alongside talking. There is no physical touch in it. Therapy outcomes are not guaranteed.

The critic gets a hearing

Most of the people she works with are creative, sensitive and high-functioning, and often their own worst critic. Internal Family Systems treats an inner critic as a part with a job rather than a flaw to be argued down. Inner Relationship Focusing sits in the same territory.

Believing your needs count

A lot of the people she works with struggle to believe their own needs register at all. It shows up as over-functioning, as never asking, as being the reliable one. She names it directly as something common in her practice, which means you do not have to make a case for it first.

FAQ

Questions from Rochester

Is there a Rochester office?

No. Melanie's only office is in Manhattan, and weekly therapy does not happen there. Weekly therapy is telehealth, with you physically located in New York State for each session.

Do I have to live in New York?

Weekly therapy takes place via telehealth. I am licensed in New York and can only offer psychotherapy services to people who reside in New York State. She holds a New York LCSW license and no others.

I function fine from the outside. Is this worth a session?

Plenty of people look that way from the outside. High-functioning, capable, and quietly convinced their own needs do not count. Many have been in therapy before, got somewhere real, and then hit a plateau.

What are the fees and the cancellation terms?

It is $235 for a 50-minute session. Every insurance plan sits out-of-network here; a superbill arrives once a month so you can file for reimbursement yourself, though nothing about that is promised, and no sliding scale exists. Changing or canceling takes 24 hours' notice, or the fee stands. Ask for a Good Faith Estimate whenever you want one.

What if it gets worse before a session?

If you are in danger right now, call or text 988 or dial 911. This site isn't a crisis service and email is not monitored for emergencies.
