Therapy in Albany

Some of what you carry never had a single date attached to it. Complex trauma tends to be cumulative, and it asks for a different pace than a one-event story does.

Working together from Albany

How this actually works

Melanie does not have an Albany office; weekly therapy with her is telehealth and only telehealth. For this kind of work that matters less than people expect, because what it runs on is showing up at the same hour each week rather than getting across a city to do it. You are in your own room instead of a waiting room. The requirement is that you are physically in New York State at the time of the session.

I don’t have an office there. Weekly therapy is telehealth, and you need to be physically located in New York State at the time of each session.

Why people get in touch

What brings people here

Pace is not an afterthought

Melanie is trained in somatic and experiential psychotherapy, and the pacing comes out of that training rather than being bolted on to it. You set the pace, you can stop when you need to, and nothing gets pushed for the sake of a breakthrough. Therapy outcomes are not guaranteed.

When therapy plateaued before

Many of her clients have been in therapy before, got somewhere real, and then hit a plateau. Understanding the history is not the same thing as the history loosening its grip. Internal Family Systems and Inner Relationship Focusing are both part of how she works with what insight alone leaves standing.

What it costs to continue

Sessions are $235 for 50 minutes, usually weekly. No insurance plan is in network with her; what arrives instead is a superbill each month, which you can file yourself for out-of-network reimbursement that no insurer commits to in advance. There is no sliding scale, and a cancellation inside 24 hours is charged in full.

FAQ

Questions from Albany

Where is your office, and can I come to it?

There is no Albany office. Melanie's only office is in Manhattan, and weekly therapy does not happen there. Weekly therapy from Albany is telehealth, with you physically located in New York State.

Does it matter that I'm upstate?

Weekly therapy takes place via telehealth. I am licensed in New York and can only offer psychotherapy services to people who reside in New York State. Albany is in New York State, so that part is straightforward.

I have already done years of therapy. Is this more of the same?

Some of it will feel familiar and some of it will not. What she hears often is that people understood their patterns and kept running them anyway. Her training in somatic and experiential work, Internal Family Systems, and Inner Relationship Focusing is aimed squarely at that gap.

Could ketamine-assisted therapy be part of this?

Only alongside ongoing psychotherapy with Melanie, and never as a first-line treatment. It is the one part of her practice that is done in person, it runs 180 minutes, and it costs $846. Where a session could take place is something to work out on the consultation rather than assume from here. The ketamine itself is prescribed, screened and overseen by a separate independent licensed medical provider, never by Melanie — she does not prescribe, supply or administer medication.

What if things get bad between sessions?

If you are in danger right now, call or text 988 or dial 911. This site isn't a crisis service and email is not monitored for emergencies.
